Printing Details

New edition. Hardback in a rare original dustwrapper. The book bound in green cloth with gilt titling and design to spine and upper board. 21.5 × 14cm, 584pp.

A decent Edwardian copy of Mrs Beeton's All about Cookery, a more accessible version of her huge Book of Household Management. The largest section is the alphabetical listing of recipes where Kaiser Pudding sits next to Kangaroo Tail, Curried, and Prune Tarts are next to Ptarmigans, Roasted. The book begins with tips for shopping, preparation, and the management of an efficient and hygienic kitchen. The book has eight coloured plates, and several more black and white full page plates.

The dustwrapper is a rare survival for this title, and particularly for an early twentieth century copy. It often being discarded or damaged whilst the book was in use.

Condition

The book is in good, sound condition. There is some dulling to the green cloth, and foxing to the prelims. The main body of text is in good clean condition, and the inner binding is secure, though the first few pages are starting to work loose at the top. All plates are present. Two small photographs, possibly of previous owners who have left a small gift inscription to the ffep, are present within the book. The dustwrapper, as expected, has some heavy wear to the spine ends, edges and corners, and small area of loss to the rear joint. However, it is now within a protective sleeve (fitted loosely to prevent further damage).
