Not signed but this copy carries the bookplate of Vivian de Sola Pinto, poet, literary critic and historian, authority on D H Lawrence and close friend of Siegfried Sassoon (they served together in the trenches in the First World War). Also, the bookplate of Anne Powell, historian, anthologist and author on the First and Second World Wars.
This is Alun Lewis's first book of poetry and this edition published in the year of his death. Alun Lewis, who was suffering from depression, died in Burma in 1944. It is commonly believed he took his own life but the military court charitably decided it was an accident.
Condition
Fair condition. The spine is scuffed and the inner binding a little weak but otherwise the book remains in perfectly good readable condition.
