Printing Details

First edition. Small hardback, bound in the original burgundy cloth with gilt titling and design to spine and upper board. Top edge gilt, fore-edge untrimmed. 16.5 × 10.5cm, 240pp

A series of socialist articles by Robert Blatchford, following on from his book "Merrie England" (1893), describing the lives of the poor and destitute around the country. His articles range from court appearances, children in ghettos, workhouses, etc.

This copy is rare to find in the first edition form, and is in good condition. There is some rubbing and bumping to the boards' edges and a lengthy previous owners inscription to the ffep (from Barrow-in-Furness, 1901) but the pages are clean and the binding is secure.
