First edition. Hardback, this issue in a deluxe binding of cream cloth and ornate gilt decoration to the spine and upper board, top edge gilt, fore-edge untrimmed. 24.5 × 17cm, 361pp.

A delightful collection of poems, carols, hymns, cradle songs etc from poets such as William Blake, Robert Browning, Robert Burns, Heinrich Hoffmann (of Struwwelpeter fame), Rudyard Kipling, William Shakespeare, R L Stevenson, and many more. The book is illustrated with 16 full page colour plates by M Dibdin Spooner.

Condition

An attractive book. There is some fading and tanning to the spine, and the pages have sporadic blotchy foxing throughout, endpapers tanned. The inner binding is secure. School prize label to the front pastedown (Haberdashers Aske, Hatcham), and the school have added their crest in gilt to the rear board.
