Printing Details

First edition, first printing. Hardback in dustwrapper. 19.5 × 12.5cm, 317pp.

A character study from Sackville-West, set on the Island of Storn, following the life of the protagonist, Shirin, over four decades. The dustwrapper and map of Storn are by Ben Nicolson (Lionel Benedict Nicolson), the British art historian and author and elder son of Harold Nicolson and Vita Sackville-West.

Condition

A good reading copy but with faults. The book is in strong readable condition but lacks the ffep, and the half-title is a little loose (but not detached). The pages are foxed to the edges. The green cloth has spotted fading to the spine and a crease to the front board. The dustwrapper has a small amount of loss to the top corner of the rear panel, slight loss along the top edge and is a but grubby but is now within a protective sleeve and has not been price-clipped.
