This copy comes from the library of anthologist, author and historian Anne Powell, and loosely inserted is a typed letter signed, a handwritten letter and an annotated typed note by Anne Ridler, the letters discussing the including of Ridler's poems in Anne Powell's forthcoming "Shadows of War, British Women's Poetry of the Second World War". Anne Ridler died in 2001 and also enclosed is a copy of the programme for the service of Memorial and Thanksgiving, and invitation to the service, and several obituaries clipped from newspapers.

Anne Ridler's work has always been distinguished by its sensitivity to both the familiar world of experience and the vaster one revealed through metaphysical speculation. As well as new work, this volume includes the author's own choice from her major collections: Poems (1939), The Nine Bright Shiners (1943), The Golden Bird (1951), A Matter of Life and Death (1959) and Some Time After (1972). As well as being a poet, she worked as an editor at Faber & Faber.
