Peter de Francia, Modern Myths: Drawings from Four Decades
An exhibition booklet from New York, 2008
First edition. Slim paperback, stapled binding. 20 × 20.5cm, 23pp.
This slim book accompanied an exhibition at the New York Studio School of Drawing, Painting & Sculpture in 2008. As well as the introductory essay, it carries 15 drawings from Peter de Francia. In Ashton's essay she places de Francia within a humanistic tradition of draftsmen as freedom fighters stretching from Goya to Guttuso, via Beckmann, Picasso and Grosz. There are shades, too, of a distinctly British tradition of caricature, of Hogarth and Rowlandson, in de Francia’s pointed social satire.
This copy is in very good condition, but with a little tanning to the cover's edges.
