First edition, limited to 65 copies (this being no 51). Hardback in glassine wrap and card slipcase, bound in full leather by Sangorski and Sutcliffe, and on handmade paper by John Mason of Leicester. Untrimmed pages, with two woodcut devices by Edward Burrett. 21.5 × 16cm, 24pp.

Signed by the publisher, Edward Burrett, directly to the limitation page. There is also a previous owner's gift inscription to the ffep which reads "John, In memory of your consecration at Saint Pauls Cathedral on March 25 1955, from Mark Gilley(?)" The John in this instance was John Klyberg, later Bishop of Fulham before being received into the Catholic Church and was made a Prelate of Honour by Pope John Paul II.

The Beatitudes being eight sayings of Christ delivered during the Sermon on the Mount and recorded in the Gospel of St Matthew in the New Testament.

Condition

The book itself is in very good condition with some tanning to the untrimmed page edges. The glassine wrap is rather creased and with small tears to the edges, and the card slipcase is a bit knocked but has done a good job in protecting the book. A rare title.
