Full title: G.Q.G. Secteur 1, Trois Ans au Grand Quartier General Par le Redacteur de Communique

This is the first volume (of two) of Pierrefeu's account for three years at the French army's Staff Headquarters on the Western Front during the Great War. He enlisted in 1914, was wounded and deemed unfit for active service. He joined military intelligence and was responsible for drafting the official communiques for the army. This history covers from his arrival at Staff HQ to the dismissal of Nivelle in 1917 and covers the battles of Verdun, Marne and Somme. This book was controversial as it was critical of the army's leadership, and the living standards of the officers compared to that of the men.

This copy is in good condition for age. The pages are browned and a little brittle and the covers are rubbed to the edges. The inner binding is sound. A scarce title to find signed.
