1973–1975. This is the first four volumes of Byron's Letters and Journals, edited by Leslie A Marchand and published by John Murray. Each book is hardback in dustwrapper, and measures 22 × 14cm.
Volume 1: In My Hot Youth (1798–1810). 1974, first edition, second printing. Byron’s adolescence, his time at Harrow and Cambridge, his early poetry publications, and his initial Grand Tour through Southern Europe and the Levant up to July 1810.
Volume 2: Famous in My Time (1810–1812). 1973, first edition, first printing. Covers the remainder of his Eastern travels, his return to England in 1811, his mother's death, and his sudden rise to literary stardom.
Volume 3: Alas! The Love of Women (1813–1814). 1974, first edition, first printing. Spans the height of "Byronmania" in Regency London, detailing his turbulent love affairs, literary output, and his first major personal journal.
Volume 4: Wedlock's the Devil (1814–1815). 1975, first edition, first printing. Focuses on Byron’s courtship, engagement, short-lived marriage to Annabella Milbanke, and the birth of their daughter, Ada.
Condition
All four books are in very good condition, with volumes 1 & 2 having previous owner's inscriptions. Vol 1's wrapper is price-clipped, the remaining three are not. Otherwise, they are very good, clean copies.
As of September 2026, books remain duty-free. The price of the book incurs no extra US import fees.
