Signed, dated and dedicated by Chester Keith to the ffep. The book is inscribed to Mr G A E Marshall, who was George Alfred Ernest Marshall, in 1911 an assistant manager of multiple bookshops, and by 1921 a librarian for W H Smiths (working out of 186 Strand, the headquarters to their lending library).
A historical novel from the now largely forgotten Chester Keith (who according to a letter from the publishers in 1922 reprinted online was a lady, whose identity remains unknown). This novel set in the 12th century during the reign of Henry II, with the Crusades and the civil war between Maud and Stephen still getting a mention. The Lady of Leybourne is a lady who lives in Castle Leybourne in the Welsh Marches with a number of potential suitors...
Condition
Whilst the book remains in strong readable condition and in basically solid shape, there is spotted foxing to the page edges and prelims, and throughout the book. An uncommon book and even more so to find signed.
