Signed, dated and dedicated by Chester Keith to the ffep. The book is inscribed to Mr G A E Marshall, who was George Alfred Ernest Marshall, in 1911 an assistant manager of multiple bookshops, and by 1921 a librarian for W H Smiths (working out of 186 Strand, the headquarters to their lending library).
A historical novel from the now largely forgotten Chester Keith (who according to a letter from the publishers in 1922 reprinted online was a lady, whose identity remains unknown). This novel set in fifteenth century Mexico / Anahuac, and in the city of Tezcuco (home of the Acolhuans) which had been invaded by the Tepanecs...
The author's note at the back of the book mentions she has used Prescott's History of Mexico for an account of events but has taken some liberties with the timeline..., and she has used Rider Haggard's example in curtailing some Mexican names for ease of reading.
Condition
Whilst the book remains in strong readable condition and in basically solid shape, there is heavy sunning to the spine and boards' edges, and light spotted foxing to the page edges and prelims. An uncommon book and even more so to find signed.
