First edition thus, Hardback, three volumes (complete). Limited to 1000 copies, this copy unnumbered. Quarter cloth with marbled paper covered boards. Each 26 × 16.5cm. xl + 1064pp.

Travelling on horseback through England in the early 19th century, William Cobbett provides evocative and accurate descriptions of the countryside, colourful accounts of his encounters with labourers, and indignant outbursts at the encroaching cities and the sufferings of the exploited poor.

This set with delightful pen and ink vignettes by John Nash.

Condition

Good readable condition. The spine have mottled fading and there is rubbing to the corners. Some pages uncut (ie unopened at the fore-edge) but remaining in strong readable condition. Neat previous owner's name to the ffep of vol 1.
