Printing Details

This is an original piece of box art by Ann Brunskill, titled Spring, and created in 1991. It is initialled and titled to the support, the background of the box has been initialled and there are two labels to the reverse.

It consists of a painted box, green on the outside, with two doors attached by string that open up to reveal a wooden tree, and hanging from the top of the box, suspended by string, are the sun and the moon. There is a painted background of a hilly landscape against a blue sky, and on the inside of the right hand door, a figure in striped top and straw hat looks out. The box sits on wooden support.

Dimensions: The wooden base is 43cm long, and the box measures 22cm long, 15.5cm high, and has a depth of 4cm. There are two corks to the reverse as buffers.

Ann Brunskill (1923–2018), was a printmaker, publisher, painter, and etcher. She studied at the Chelsea School of Art & Design (1959–62). She established her own printing label, The World’s End Press, using a Lion platen press to create her own books. Her artwork consisted of etching, woodcutting, painting and construction. She added more colour to her printing process for books by using woodblocks painted with watercolour and printed in a Japanese method. She also worked with digital images. She has exhibited at the Victoria & Albert Museum and the British Crafts Centre in London. Her work can be found in the V&A, National Library of Australia, Government Art Collection, The British Library, and the Bibliotheque Nationale, Paris.

Condition

Good condition. The doors hand a little loosely when not fully opened or closed, and there is a little light wear to the contents. Slight water stain to the wooden base but the whole remaining an attractive piece.
