This copy has a presentation inscription to the ffep "Hugo, with best regards, Philip Stockford, 1964". Philip Stockford was a British textile designer and artist known primarily for his botanical watercolour studies.

George Turnbull's book remains one of the most comprehensive economic and technical histories of the British calico printing industry, spanning from its 17th-century origins through its 19th-century industrial peak to its mid-20th-century consolidation.

Condition

The book is in good solid condition, though previously owned by a smoker and it has a tobacco odour. There are some small patches of fading to the spine corresponding to loss on the dustwrapper. The wrapper has significant loss to the bottom of the front panel and spine, with smaller amount of loss at the head of the spine, and two small areas of loss to the spine itself. It is now within a protective sleeve.
