Printing Details
Hardback, bound in original red cloth, with gilt decoration and titling to spine and upper board, blindstamped design to both boards and spine. All edges gilt. 20.5 × 13.5cm, viii + 552pp
A fine collection of Wilhelm and Jacob Grimm's fairy tales (including Rumpelstiltskin, Hansel and Gretel, Snow-White and the Rose-Red, Cinderella, The Goose Girl, there are just over 200 tales) illustrated with 240 illustrations by Wehnert (36 full page, and each story has a small illustration at the start. The plate that should be at p263 is bound in as the frontispiece).
Quite a rare production as the publishers, Routledge, Warne, and Routledge existed only for about 5 years when William Warne joined George and Robert Routledge in 1859, but Warne died in May 1864 and his brother, Frederick, left to establish his own publishing house.
Condition
This copy is in very good condition for age. There is light rubbing to the corners and spine ends with one small tear (>.05 cm) at the head of the spine. Very mild foxing to the first few pages but otherwise very clean. The inner binding is pulled a very little at p305/306 but remaining firmly attached, hinges secure. Previous owner's name to half-title.
As of July 2026, books remain duty-free. The price of the book incurs no extra US import fees.
