Printing Details

First UK edition, first printing. Hardback, bound in the original red cloth boards, titled to spine. 19 × 12.5cm, 265pp.

Tom Ripley is struggling to stay one step ahead of his creditors and the law, when an unexpected acquaintance offers him a free trip to Europe and a chance to start over. Ripley wants money, success and the good life and he's willing to kill for it. When his new-found happiness is threatened, his response is as swift as it is shocking.

Condition

A fair to good copy of this scarce first edition. The red cloth is rubbed, with some fading to the spine and a crease with some fraying to the head of the spine. There's the ghost of a Boot's Library label to the upper board, and a small black pen mark to the pages' bottom edge. Internally, the inner binding is secure. There is light but comprehensive foxing to the pages edges, prelims, and the first 15 pages or so but this peters out for the main body of text, and is mostly marginal. Foxing again from the last few pages. Overall, a bit tired but remaining in strong readable condition.
