Signed by Alexander Kelly to the ffep. From the library of Alexander Kelly (1929–1996), pianist and professor at the Royal College of Music. He gave his debut under Sir Thomas Beecham, and as a teacher his pupils included Peter Jacobs, David Owen Norris, Iain Burnside, and Jonathan Plowright. He married cellist Margaret Moncrieff, who also wrote two novels for the Chalet School series under the name Helen McClelland.

This is the first condensed edition of Barzun's important study of Berlioz who had been seen as an eccentric and undisciplined romantic composer. This book was the start of a re-awakening in Berlioz and his music, and lead the way to Colin Davis’s landmark recordings in the 1960s.

Condition

The wrapper is dulled, and there is a little dusting to the page edges but otherwise remaining in strong readable condition.
