This copy belonged to Ada Wentworth Fitzwilliam, with her bookplate to the front pastedown. Ada Wentworth Fitzwilliam (1877–1944) was the daughter of the Duke of Leeds and was herself an author on textiles, best known for 'Jacobean Embroidery: Its Forms and Fillings Including Late Tudor'.
Art in Needlework, A Book About Embroidery (first published in 1900) is one of the definitive Arts and Crafts movement manuals on embroidery. Written by the prominent British decorative artist and designer Lewis F Day. Illustrated throughout in black and white, it details needlework by stitch (canvas stitches, crewel stitch, chain stitch, appliqué, couching, goldwork, and cutwork etc) as well as offering practical advice on materials, tension, framing, and honest craftsmanship.
Condition
Good plus condition. There is a little bumping to the corners and spine ends, and a vertical scuff to the spine. The contents are in good, strong readable condition, with some pulling to the binding at the start of the book though it remains secure.
