Painted in the 1970s or 1980, this is an oil on board in a frame (but not glazed). The frame measures 56 × 46cm and the painting is 46 × 37cm.
The painting a corner building in Pendleton, an area of Salford, which is stated to be a Congregational Church (I haven't been able to locate it though there are several in the area). The building stands on a corner, with a cupola. To the left is a lamp post and a single figure stands on the pavement. The single figure seems to be a feature of Finlay's works.
There are two labels to the back of the painting—the first giving the title, and artist and address, the second being an exhibition label stating this painting if not for sale (NFS) and belonged to fellow Salford artist Roy Mewha.
Edward William Finlay (1907–1979) was an early member of Salford Art Club (along with Roy Mewha), and his work can be found in Salford Museum & Art Gallery, and the Working Class Movement Gallery, also in Salford.
Condition
This painting is in very good condition. The frame has a few small scuffs but is securely fitted and tight at the corners.
As of July 2026, books remain duty-free. The price of the book incurs no extra US import fees.
