This is an original fashion colour illustration, showing a lady dressed in the column evening dress. It dates from the late thirties. The paper measures approx. 24 × 33 cm, and is in pencil and watercolour / gouache. The background has been painted a pinkish colour, with the back of the dress drawn in pencil to the side, and three ink drawings of headwear to the reverse.
The illustration shows the wonderfully detailed dress. This is an elegant, floor-length column evening dress. It features a beautifully molded, sweetheart or ruched sarong-style bust line with wide shoulder straps. The fabric has an incredibly intricate, trellis-like geometric pattern interspersed with small floral or scroll details in magenta, teal, and gold. matching patterned snood, cowl, or scarf draped over the back of her head and pinned into her hair, with the fabric trailing down across her right shoulder. Her hair is styled in a spectacular, prominent front roll or pompadour
