This is an original fashion colour illustration, showing Indian dress. It dates from the late thirties. The paper measures approx. 20 × 28 cm, and is in pencil and watercolour / gouache.
The illustration features an Indian lady in a low-slung, flared purple skirt with a deep crimson sash or waistband tied at the hip, exposing the midriff. A vibrant cerulean blue veil (dupatta) with gold-trimmed edges is draped elegantly over her head and falls down her back. She is also wearing heavy, traditional-style gold jewellery, including an ornate collar necklace, drop earrings, a maang tikka (forehead ornament) peeking from beneath her veil, and gold bangles on her wrists.
