This is the autograph of Bath MP John Arthur Roebuck (J A Roebuck), on the front panel of an envelope addressed by Roebuck to Cyrus Redding during his brief tenure as editor of the Bath Guardian newspaper in 1834.
It is the front panel only of an envelope measuring approx. 7.5 × 12.5cm and addressed to Redding at the Bath Guardian offices, it is dated November 1834 from Christchurch. Roebuck (1801–1879) was a radical Victorian MP, a staunch advocate for political and social reform and frequent thorn in the government's side. Cyrus Redding was an English journalist, he edited the Bath Guardian (1834–5)
Condition
Fair condition. It is quite creased and with a pencil line over it and stamped No 2 (presumably by the post office). Roebuck's signature lower left is clear.
