Undated, c1845. Pocket edition. Paperback, illustrated covers. 13.5 × 9.5cm, 76pp + 4pp ads.
A rather charming early Victorian Ball Room annual, published in a size small enough to fit into a waistcoat pocket or ladies' reticule. The book gives a brief history of dancing, and a guide to the etiquette and terms of the dance floor. This is followed by instructions quadrilles, the mazourka, the polonaise, reels, waltzes and country dances. Each pages has a decorative border.
One small literary interest is the adverts to the rear mention H G Clarke's rare three volume pocket edition of Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice.
Condition
Fair. The inner binding is loose and the spine has a taped repair as can been seen in the photo. Possibly lacking title page and one page of prelims though the text of the book is complete. The book remains readable with gentle handling but is becoming quite a scarce find.
