Printing Details
This is a handwritten and signed envelope sent by the Mark Lemon, editor, to journalist Cyrus Redding. It is undated but like to be 1850s/1860s. It has been pasted down onto card. Lemon's printed crest has been taken from the back of the envelope and stuck to the front. It is stamped and postmarked. The card measures 15.5 × 11cm, and the envelope measures approx 11.5 × 7cm.
Mark Lemon (1809–1870) was the founding editor of both Punch and The Field, he also wrote plays. The recipient was Cyrus Redding (1785–1870), a journalist, editor and wine writer. He lived at 10 Hill Road, St John's Wood in north London.
Condition
Good condition for age. There is some light spotted foxing to the envelope and some pencil annotations has been erased (I am unsure whether this is contemporary to the envelope). Mark Lemon's signature is clear.
