Fr Rolfe's expansion of his earlier collection of tales "Stories Toto Told Me" from six to thirty-two short pieces. The protagonist, an Englishman named George Arthur Rose, is wandering through the Italian countryside and Alban Hills near Rome, accompanied by a retinue of local youth. The primary voice of the collection, however, is Toto, a sixteen-year-old Italian peasant boy who serves as Rose’s servant and guide. As they walk, rest, and explore, Toto recounts a series of folk legends regarding the Catholic saints, the Madonna, and the court of Heaven.

This copy has a lengthy introduction by Shane Leslie and a bibliography.
