En Route is the second in a sequence of four novels featuring his thinly veiled autobiographical protagonist, Durtal. Là-bas came first in 1891 as an exploration of the occult and Satanism, En Route chronicles Durtal’s profound and often agonizing conversion to Roman Catholicism. The plot is deliberately sparse, focusing on the internal spiritual journey of a man who is "haunted by Catholicism" but struggles to reconcile his past life of dissipation with a desire for spiritual purity.

A good copy. The pages are tanned and the book has a musty odour. Small chip to the title label but remaining in strong readable condition.
