A first-hand account of the opening months of the First World War, written by Marcel Dupont (the pen name of Marcel L'Hotte, 1879–1964). He was a lieutenant in the French Chasseurs à Cheval and provides a vivid depiction of the rapid, chaotic transition from traditional mobile cavalry operations to the grinding reality of early trench warfare.
This edition was published in Harrap's Modern Language Series and has an English preface, extensive explanatory textual notes, and a comprehensive French-English vocabulary appendix. The main body of text is in French.
Condition
An attractive copy, but with blotchy foxing to the page edges and a little to the margins. The book remains in strong readable condition. Christ's Hospital prize label to the front pastedown.
