The 1902 edition of Bury's History of Greece was expanded into two volumes from the single volume first edition of 1900, and included a number of maps, battle plans and extensive notes. The work records nearly three millennia of Greek civilization, beginning with the "Heroic Age" and the expansion of the early Greek states, tracing the rise of Athenian democracy and Spartan militarism, and culminating in the conquests of Alexander the Great. Volume one with 22 maps within the text and one fold out map, volume 2 with 13 maps in the text and one fold out map.
Condition
The leather is sun-faded to the top 3–4 cms of the boards giving it a misty appearance, there is light wear to the joints and the top raised band of volume 2 has suffered some damage. However, internally they are in very good condition with clean pages and secure binding. All maps are present as per the plate index. There are some minor pencil annotations to the margins but these are few and far between. School presentation label to the pastedown of vol 1, presented to Hubert Arthur Secretan, an English author and sociologist who concentrated on the conditions of working class youth.
