Printing Details
First UK edition, first printing. Hardback, bound in the original blue cloth, gilt titling to spine, printed titling to upper board with silhouette of White Fang against a printed Moon and forest. 19.5 × 13cm, 310pp + 40pp ads (dated October 1906).
Set in the frozen forests of the Yukon Territory, Canada, during the Klondike Gold Rush of the 1890s, White Fang tells the story of a young wolf-dog’s journey from the wild into human territory. As White Fang learns that civilisation is every bit as vicious and violent as nature – and that survival is only awarded to the fittest – we too see how instinct, sensation and emotion drive every one of us.
White Fang is considered a companion novel to London's classic The Call of the Wild, but with an inverse storyline.
Condition
A decent copy for age. The book is in strong readable condition, with light rubbing to the spine ends and corner tips. There is tanning and one small mark to the spine on the front joint (visible in the image). The inner binding is secure, the pages clean, if a little age-toned. Bottom edge untrimmed. Hinges secure. Small marginal tear to page 309 not affecting text.
