An interesting item from the last decades of colonial rule in the British Gold Coast. This book gives the names of the Chiefs in the Eastern, Central, and Western Provinces, as well as Togoland (under British Mandate), Ashanti, and the Northern Territories. The first few pages give the Head Chiefs, for example in the Ewe section of the Eastern Province, the Fia of Peki is Kwadwo Dei X. The main portion of the book is the list of Head-Chiefs, Chiefs and Headman of Towns and Villages in the Gold Coast Colony, Ashanti, Togoland etc the listings here give the state, division, the town or village, the title, name, and the year enstooled. An example from the Volta River District reads: State: Yilo Krobo; Division: Nyewer; Two or Village: Etwiso Yoyim; Title: Asafoatse; Name: Narh Oga; Year enstooled: 1899.
Loosely inserted is an addendum of chiefs from Kumasi Benkum, and the original receipt (dated 6.5.42) from the Government Printer in Accra.
