This copy with the ownership inscription of G H S Dixon of Doddington, Oxford. George Henry Stansfield Dixon (1893–1964) was the son of Arthur Stansfield Dixon, the renowned Arts and Crafts architect and metalworker who founded the Birmingham Guild of Handicraft, and was keenly involved in the horse-racing world from the 30s to the 50s. He was co-editor of "The World Of Horses" 1938.
Dick Francis was one of the most successful post-war National Hunt jockeys. The winner of over 350 races, he was champion jockey in 1953/1954 and rode for HM Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother, most famously on Devon Loch in the 1956 Grand National. On his retirement from the saddle, he published his autobiography, The Sport of Queens, before going on to write forty-three bestselling novels, a volume of short stories (Field of 13), and the biography of Lester Piggott.
Condition
The book is in good condition, tanned and a bit rubbed but in strong readable condition. The dustwrapper is poor, with loss to corners and heavy creasing but is now within a protective sleeve.
