Printing Details
This is Rudyard Kipling's autograph and sentiment, written on the top half of headed paper. It reads Very sincerely yours, Rudyard Kipling, Armadale Castle, 18/04". The sheet measures 12 × 16cm, the printed address reads "4F Hyde Park mansions, Hyde Park, W". On the reverse is simply written "For Teddy" in a different hand.
Rudyard Kipling and his family sailed to Cape Town in December 1904 aboard the Armadale Castle, arriving on 5th January. Contemporary reports record the ship clashing with a 57-ft sea monster on the voyage (one paper reports that Mr Kipling was a witness) but this is unconfirmed by Kipling and his wife's diaries.
Condition
Good condition. There is some loss to the top and bottom left corners, and a slightly uneven cut to the bottom edge. There are a few spots of light foxing but otherwise a nice example.
Books are currently zero-rated for duty (as of April 2026), so the price shown is the price you pay.
