A collection of 77 nursery songs, ten game rhymes and 91 short nursery jingles follow Baring-Gould interesting introduction to these songs and rhymes. The book is a wonderful example of late Victorian, early Edwardian printing and book design, with each page having an ornate printed border, some of which frame an illustration by a member of the Birmingham Art School, which at the time was a leading centre for the Arts and Crafts Movement. The border was designed by Georgie Evelyn Cave France (1866–1934), the illustrations were by students from the Birmingham Art School taught by Arthur Joseph Gaskin (1862–1928).
Condition
Good condition. Whilst the book is in strong readable condition, the spine is faded and there is some spotted marking to the upper board. There is foxing, mostly marginal, to the first and last few pages but the main body of text being in decent condition for age.
