This copy with the bookplate of K T Butler to the front pastedown. Kathleen Teresa Blake Butler (known as Blazing Butler) was a renowned scholar and lecturer in modern languages and Mistress of Girton College, Cambridge. The quotation is from Lucretius's De Rerum Natura and translates as "It is a joy to approach untouched springs and drink, and a joy to pluck new flowers".

First published in the 1827, this is Chateaubriand's accounts of America with his descriptions of the American wilderness and Native American life. This book also includes his Memoires sur les Ruines de L'Ohio (his journey to the ancient Pre-Columbian earthworks and mounds found in the Ohio River Valley), his Voyage en Italie, Voyage a Clermont, and his Voyage au Mont-Blanc.

Condition

Good plus condition. There is tanning to the pages and light wear and sunning to the leather but it remains in strong readable condition.
