Published in the 'Cistercian Studies Series'. A foundational text in Christian and monastic spirituality, written by Evagrius Ponticus, a 4th century monk. A lengthy introductory chapter is followed by two most influential works: Praktikos (The Practical Life), the first stage of the spiritual journey to achieve the purification of the soul through the cultivation of virtues, and then to Chapters on Prayer, which is how the mind can move towards Theologia (the direct knowledge of God).
Condition
The book itself is in very good condition, with clean pages and secure binding. There is a bookplate for the Convent of S Mary and the Angels, Hemel Hempstead, to the ffep. The dustwrapper has some light knocks and is a little marked but is complete.
