Printing Details
This is a rare original invitation printed on card, from Liaquat Ali Khan (as Defence Minister) and his wife, Begum Liaquat Ali Khan, to meet the Turkish Military Mission, at their residence. This invitation has the gold-embossed crest at the top is the early official emblem of the Ministry of Defence. It was issued to Squadron Leader Peter Kelly, who had been seconded to the Royal Pakistan Air Force.
Liaquat Ali Khan was the first Prime Minister of Pakistan (who also held the Defence portfolio). He was the right-hand man of Muhammad Ali Jinnah and a founding father of the nation. His wife, Begum Ra'ana Liaquat Ali Khan, was an important figure in her own right—a leading stateswoman and founder of the All Pakistan Women's Association. Liaquat Ali Khan was assassinated in October 1951, just seven months after this reception. Invitations from his residence are exceptionally rare because his time in office was cut so short.
Condition
Good condition, there is a little corner creasing and a small patch of foxing to the right of the crest.
