Printing Details
This is an original copy of the Official Secrets Act, signed by a senior RAF officer in 1959. It is RAF Form 4216 and was signed by Squadron Leader Peter Leslie Kelly (Service No. 51110), and was signed 30th December 1959. It was signed as Sq Ldr Kelly retired from the service, his last unit being No. 35 Maintenance Unit, RAF (Adjutant's Office).
This form was required by the Official Secrets Acts of 1911 and 1920. By signing this in December 1959, Squadron Leader Kelly was formally acknowledging that his obligation to remain silent about his work did not end with his retirement or resignation. By the late 1950s, 35 MU was responsible for the storage and distribution of a vast array of equipment, potentially including sensitive electronics or components for the burgeoning nuclear deterrent program.
Peter Kelly served with the RAF during the Second World War, serving in India. Post-war, he was seconded to the Royal Pakistan Air Force, serving in Karachi and Mauripur.
