Printing Details

First edition. Hardback in dustwrapper. 22.5 × 14.5cm, 240pp.

This copy has an interesting letter loosely inserted. It is a typed letter, signed, from the editor (Todor Tsvetkov) of September Victory (Septemvriyska Pobeda), a Bulgarian communist paper, which asks the recipient, Brigita Yosifova, a Bulgarian journalist resident in London, if she would travel round the five streets of London named after Plevna (now Pleven), take photos, find out their history, ask if the current residents know the history of Plevna... but it's the last request "And anything else interesting, curious, or "spicy" that a journalist from London could offer us in connection with the topic." that raises an eyebrow. I'm sure the residents of the Tower Hamlets Plevna Rd in 1960 wouldn't have been suspicious of a Bulgarian asking questions...!

A detailed historical account of one of the most significant military engagements of the 1877- 1878 Russo-Turkish War. The narrative centres on the Bulgarian town of Plevna where a vastly outnumbered Ottoman force led by Osman Pasha held off the Russian Imperial Army for nearly five months.

Condition

The book is in good condition, with a little dusting to the pages' top edge. The dustwrapper is fair, with chipping and loss to the top edge and corners but is now within a protective sleeve.
