A moralizing Victorian text that examines the lives of famous figures—such as William Beckford (the "Man of Wealth") and Beau Brummell (the "Man of Fashion")—to argue that worldly pursuits are often a "mirage" compared to spiritual fulfillment. Nicely illustrated by John Tenniel with full page drawings and tailpieces.
Condition
This copy is in good condition for age. There is light mottling to the upper board (top right quarter) and minor rubbing to the edges and spine ends. The contents in very good condition.
