Printing Details
1953–1956. First edition. Three volumes, hardback in red / brown cloth, gilt titling to upper board, blindstamped to spine. Each 26.5 × 17.7cm, 938pp + contents, 894pp + contents, 913pp + contents. Russian text.
These three volumes follow previous volumes (specifically volumes 7–8, 39–40, and 41–42) and continue the examination of the works of Alexandr Herzen and Nikolay Ogarev, the two most influential figures of the 19th-century Russian revolutionary movement and "free press" abroad. Herzen and Ogarev founded the famous newspaper Kolokol (The Bell) in London as they were banned in Russia during their lifetime, and as such much of their correspondence and early work remained scattered across Europe or in private archives, in particular the "Prague Archives" . These 1953 volumes represent a massive Soviet academic effort to compile and annotate their intellectual legacy.
Condition
Good condition. Light wear to the covers, and volume 3 has a light water mark and wrinkle to the top margin to the latter half of the book but this does not affect text. All three books remain in strong readable condition.
