This second edition omits the second volume of the first edition (1899) but still stands as a comprehensive history of Julius Caesar's conquest of France. An introductory chapter describes the state of Gaul before the invasion, followed by chapters on the campaigns against the Helvetii, Ariovistus, the Belgae, the Maritime Tribes and the Aquitani, the massacre of the Usipetes and Tencteri, the disaster at Aduatuca, the rebellion of Vercingetorix, and the end of the struggle. Illustrated with fold-out maps.
Condition
Whilst this copy remains in strong readable condition, the corners are bumped and the spine ends are rubbed and frayed. Light foxing throughout but all maps present and as mentioned, the book is perfectly readable. The book is blindstamped presentation copy to the title page.
