This copy has first been inscribed by the author in 1948 to The Rev W H Holdsworth, Rector of Orton Waterville (Cambridgeshire), and the Rev Holdsworth has signed it to his successor as Rector of Orton Waterville, the Rev Frank Hayward in 1956. Additionally, there are three typed letters signed by the author W D Bushell to the Rev Holdsworth (these discuss the pulpit at St Mary's which is now at Orton Waterville, and also mentioning waiting till the war is over—the letters were sent in March 1945), and an unsigned typed letter from Nikolaus Pevsner on his Penguin Books headed paper for The Buildings of Britain series, asking the recipient to check the entry for Orton Waterville for accuracy.

A detailed and illustrated history of the Church of St Mary the Great in Cambridge from its earliest history and the Great Fire of 1290, through rebuilding and Reformation, its relevance to the University, memorials and benefactions, to the end of the Second World War.

Condition

A good readable copy but with tanning and creasing to the covers. The enclosures have been folded and have some unsightly creasing but also remain readable. The Pevsner letter has some foxing.
