This is a fine black and white photographic portrait of the novelist Elizabeth von Arnim at the height of her literary fame by the noted photographer Bertram Park. Undated but taken in the late 1910s, early 1920s. Framed and glazed, with the photograph laid on card with a pencil margin, and mounted in cream textured card. The frame measures 30.5 × 42.5cm, and the image is 16 × 22.5cm.
Signed by Bertram Park lower left.
Elizabeth von Arnim (1866–1941) was an Australian-born English novelist, her best loved works being Elizabeth and her German Garden and The Enchanted April.
Bertram Park (1883–1972) was a leading Mayfair society photographer (he produced a number of books on nude photography with his wife Yvonne Gregory) and was also an expert of rose growing.
Condition
Very good condition for age. There is some tanning to the cream mount and some age related wear to the frame but otherwise an attractive piece.
