The Haunted Man and the Ghost's Bargain was published in 1848 and was the last of Charles Dickens's Christmas stories. Continuing the theme from A Christmas Carol, it is a story of ghosts and redemption. The protagonist and chemist, Professor Redlaw is a haunted man. He is followed by a spectre who looks exactly like him. But what if he could get rid of all his sadness and despair? Redlaw strikes a ghostly bargain and suffers the consequences; is living without sorrow really worth it?
The 1887 editions of Dickens's Christmas Tales were published from a stereotype of the original editions.
Condition
Fair, pretty much a reading copy only. There is a lean to the spine and rubbing to the corners. The spine is tanned, and the cloth faded and marked. The endpapers are foxed, finger-marks and spotted foxing to the pages and the rear hinge is cracking open. However, despite all that, it remains a readable copy!
