Printing Details
This is a scrapbook with spiral binding, measuring 36 × 24.5, and containing articles, music, photographs etc from the career of Dr Richard Wassell.
Richard Wassell (1880–1949) was conductor of the Birmingham City Police Band from 1922–1942 and chorus master and conductor of the Birmingham City Chorus and Birmingham Choral Society.
Included is one signed music score by Wassell, and a letter sent to the owner of the album after Richard Wassell's death.
The album appears to have been kept by a young friend called Monty and consists mostly of local newspaper clippings, along with four music scores by Wassell, a letter from Wassell's wife in 1949, and two original photographs of St Martin's Church's choirboys outing in 1932 and a processional in 1934.
There's not a great deal in the album and the item are generously spaced but it is an interesting item in connection with music in Birmingham.
