New translation. Two volumes (Complete). Hardback, quarter leather with gilt decoration and titling to spines. Pebbled cloth boards. All edges gilt. Each 20.5 × 12.5cm. Vol 1: xxiii + 383pp, vol 2: xii + 406pp.
Cervantes' tale of the deranged gentleman who turns knight-errant, tilts at windmills and battles with sheep in the service of the lady of his dreams, Dulcinea del Toboso. Both volumes illustrated throughout with plates by Grandville.
Condition
Fair to good condition. The boards are rubbed and marked, with sunning to the rear of both. The pages are lightly foxed throughout, though a little heavier to some of the plates. The inner binding is secure but strained a bit in places, but both volumes remaining in strong readable condition. Both volumes bear the ownership signature of Julius Talbot Airey, dated Paris 1847.
