Printing Details

First edition. Hardback in dustwrapper. 21.5 × 14.5cm, 150pp.

This copy has signed by Richard Ellmann to the title page, with a further warm personal inscription from Richard Ellmann (as Dick) to Mort (Morton N Cohen, the pre-eminent Lewis Carroll scholar)

This book traces the literary ancestry of Ulysses and discusses how Joyce triangulated himself with Homer and Shakespeare. Richard Ellmann demonstrates that Joyce, far from being apolitical, was revolutionary, working in his own oblique fashion to subvert existing institutions.
