First published in 1939, Gist of Art was the first of a series of books undertaken by the American artists group, inc., designed to present an authoritative parallel literature of contemporary American art. This book covers forty years of John Sloan's painting. The first section of text are John Sloan's thoughts on art in general, drawing, figure drawing, painting, etching, murals etc, followed by over 100 examples of his work in black and white.
Condition
This is a reading copy only. The dustwrapper is heavily worn with significant loss to the spine and overall chipping and creasing but is now within a protective sleeve. The book itself has some mottling to the upper edge of both boards but the contents remain in strong readable condition.
