This copy signed and dedicated by Martin Middlebrook to Norman Scrivener "For S/Ldr Norman Scrivener, DSO, DFC. who flew in the Battle of Hamburg with 83 (Pathfinder) Squadron, best wishes, Martin Middlebrook." Norman Scrivener (who is mentioned on page 164) flew over sixty raids over Germany with the RAF in the Second World War. He started with 97 Squadron, became a pilot officer and was one of the first navigators to use the developing radar systems. He then flew with Guy Gibson with 106 Sqn on his last raid before forming the Dambusters 617 Squadron. He then moved to the elite 83 Pathfinder Sqn and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Distinguished Flying Order.
This book studies the air raids on Hamburg by the RAF and the USAF in the summer of 1943, the most sensational aspect of which was the deadly "fire storm". The book contains interviews with surviving combatants and victims, both military and civilian. Illustrated with photographs.
Condition
The book is in very good condition, there is some light edgewear to the wrapper and some minor spotting to the page edges but is otherwise in very good order.
